Extracting wisdom teeth
Extracting wisdom teeth is often the best thing for your oral health because most of our jaws cannot fit the extra teeth. Usually wisdom teeth start to erupt around the age of 17 and in many cases, because our mouth is already full of teeth there is no room for the wisdom tooth. In this case the wisdom teeth become impacted, which can be very painful and uncomfortable.
Wisdom teeth extraction
There are two options when it comes to wisdom tooth extraction—either extracting them before they become a problem or waiting until they are causing you severe pain before you have them extracted.
Most dentists will recommend the pre-emptive option as this is less painful for you and easier to remove the wisdom teeth. Extracting your wisdom teeth before they become a problem also reduces the possible complications which can arise when removing impacted wisdom teeth.
Wisdom teeth removal
Depending on the severity of the situation some patients can have their wisdom teeth removed at our dental practice under local anaesthetic or in a hospital under general anaesthetic.
